My Creative Journey: Embracing ADHD Superpowers

People always told me that my mind worked in ways they couldn’t quite grasp. For years, I tried to fit into a world that didn’t seem built for me, with my racing thoughts and unique patterns.

Then I discovered the true strengths of ADHD and creativity—not just as an outlet, but as a way to bring order to the beautiful chaos.

Getting to Know My ADHD Strengths

My world changed a LOT when I became a parent. I had to learn to connect deeply with this amazing little human—even on the days when he challenged every ounce of my patience. Knowing my own neurodivergence and how connecting can sometimes be tricky, I felt the weight of this HUGE responsibility.

So, I turned to what I know best: creativity.

Creativity became more than just a way to pass the time together. It became our space to bond, a platform to process emotions, and a way to really understand each other. Because if you’re anything like me, us neurodivergent folk can pick up on each other’s emotions so strongly—if one of us is feeling anxious, the other is likely feeling it too.

Creating together became our way to make sense of our ADHD world.

Some days (okay, let’s be real—most days), my thoughts feel so loud and busy, like animals running loose or a thousand clicker pens going off at once.

It’s chaos.

But I’ve found my golden goose egg: picking up a pen to draw brings a sense of calm. (Though let’s be honest, sometimes finding the motivation is a whole other story!)

Creativity became my clarity in the chaos. When I know there’s something in my mind but can’t quite grab hold of it, creativity helps me channel my thinking and work with my ADHD strengths.

I’ve always found it easier to communicate through doodles and scribbles—my drawings often make more sense than the jumble of words that spill out of my mouth.

One of my proudest moments was when my son, who often struggles to express his feelings, sat down to draw with me. It was just a few lines, but I knew those lines were helping him calm his frustrations and emotions in a way words couldn’t.

That’s the magic of creativity and ADHD intuition—they fill in the spaces that words sometimes can’t.
